Bug Club Reading Challenge April 1-11th, 2014

A gentle reminder-

 Dear Parents,

CIS will be hosting its first Elementary School Bug Club Reading Challenge from April 1- April 11th.

During the Reading Challenge, students will have access to a variety of books in their personal libraries. The goal of the challenge is for students to read as many books as they can and correctly complete the quizzes. Teachers will keep track of how many books students have completed. The higher the reading level, the more points the student can earn.

At the end of the challenge, prizes will be awarded to the student who has read the most books for their grade. There will also be separate awards for ESL students and for the Pre-K or J-K class that reads the most books all together. Total points will be calculated for each house, so every book counts! Students will receive their prizes after they return from the Spring Holiday.

How can you help?

1.    Make sure that your child’s username and password are working. If they have misplaced their username or password, or if it’s not working, speak with your child’s teacher about setting that up before the challenge begins.
2.    Encourage your child to read the stories without using the “Listen to the Story” option, so that students are reading and practicing their literacy skills
3.    Set aside a special “reading time” each day where everyone in the family selects and reads a book for a specific amount of time
4.    Celebrate success! Did your child read more today than they did yesterday?
5.    Please note that the website is: http://www.pearsonbugclub.com/ and the school ID is: jjh7 (This code only works with the above website, not with any other Bug Club sites)

Good luck and happy reading!
