SCIENCE FAIR

Next Friday, May 2, 2014 is our SCIENCE FAIR. We hope you will join us as we look forward to seeing everyone there!

Please note, if your child has NOT brought their materials into school, please ensure they bring them in on Monday so that we can begin making them as we write up our experiments in time for the FAIR!

As mentioned in our letter - I will provide the Hot Glue Gun!

Happy Friday and we look forward to seeing all our first graders on Monday!

Next week is a short week with a mid-week holiday :-)

Our discoveries about science and other things we learned today!

Oh what a day! It was a super HOT day today but we managed to stay cool drinking lots of water and being indoors.

This morning, we discovered that after leaving an egg in vinegar over night something extraordinary happened. We washed the egg and discovered that it's shell had dissolved- my goodness! We were able to see the yoke and it was squishy and similar to a bouncy ball.

We had a lot of fun feeling it, smelling and and trying to describe it. Here are a few pictures!

We then moved on and discussed Sentence Fluency in Language Arts, reviewing punctuation and writing complete sentences that conveyed an idea and thought.
For Math, while working with measurement, we still work on number sense and working with number lines. Next week, we introduce the concept of regrouping in addition (carrying over).
We know some of the different words for minus and plus!
I hope you have a wonderful, restful weekend!

April Class Picture!

Oh how we have grown not just in size but in our class strength as well!

This week!

Our week has already been a super busy week! We started with show and share and had visitors come in to talk with us!

With Science Fair coming up next week, we have begun focusing on science and looking at simple experiments on line. We found some extremely cool experiments and we hope we can get them made and ready in time to show you!

Learning how to conduct an experiment!
We celebrated Earth Day by talking about how we can do our bits to save the earth!

Made pollution catchers that we all took home and hopefully hung outside to see just how much pollution there is in the air. I hung my pollution catcher in our classroom and am proud to say that we have rather clean air around us!

We continue reading and learning about new things not just from our friends and teachers but from books as well!

We had our first grade assembly and we are so so so proud of our first graders for singing so beautifully. Unfortunately, I do not have pictures of the performance :( if anyone has pictures they could share with me so that I could put them on our blog I would be extremely grateful!

Apples for our INQUIRERS!!!
We are reviewing and working with Big numbers!

We are exploring and learning about density- floating and sinking. How to ask a research question, make a prediction and test that prediction.. we had lots of fun with our science experiments today!

We have begun our second experiment and are yet to discover what happens when we put an egg in vinegar!

We will have our results tomorrow..... keep a look out for reactions and out experiment write ups here!

We hope you have a wonderful weekend and look forward to seeing you all at the Science Fair on FRIDAY MAY 2nd!
