Phew!
Its been a busy week and grade one has been balanced, risk takers, thinkers and knowledge people. Every week I am amazed to see how much 6 year old minds are able to absorb and assimilate. I am the proud teacher and I love watching them become more independent thinker, who thin outside the box. They are not afraid to ask questions and respect each others points of view.
This is going to be a looonnnggg post as we have done so much and I have so many pictures to show you what we have been up to in school.
As it is getting hotter and hotter, a gentle reminder to ensure 1st graders have their hats and plenty of water to drink! After lunch and play time we all come in tired, thirsty and hot. We like to rest for about 10 minutes so that we are ready to work the rest of the afternoon. We listen to music and lie down in our cool classroom! :-)

LANGUAGE ARTS:
We have been discussing sentence fluency and what it means to write good sentences that have details and make sense. We have also been working on writing reviews/reports as a way to get into our next learning genre of writing-
Narratives.
We read, we chat, we have guided reading and we write our recommendations about the books we read.

MATH:
We are finishing up all the bits and pieces of unfinished work, reviewing addition and subtraction, back to doing our 5 minute math and its wonderful to watch students enjoy the challenge to get their addition and subtraction skills better and better each week. We have started our new UNIT on
Linear Measurement! We are using non standard measure to measure things around us and we love the hands on aspect of math. It makes it more real and will prepare students for using stander measures, cooking and of course the much anticipated time of Field Trips!

SCIENCE:
FORCES- Movement... we have been brainstorming about movement, forces, gravity and push and pull forces. These are BIG concepts and we have had one experiment that students enjoyed. We are learning how to ask questions and make hypothesis and a great review of our first unit in LANGUAGE ARTS on PROCEDURE WRITING is what we are working on.

Our Experiment:
SOCAIL STUDIES: COMMUNITY HELPERS!
Students love having visitors come in and share their jobs and pictures.Thank you Grade 1B for inviting us to listen and have the opportunity to learn about FIRST AID. The next week, we have Mr. Joshua coming in to finish his presentations on Land Animals, Africa and India.
SPECIALS:
We had our assembly this WEDNESDAY and are proud of studetns who got apples for being great COMMUNICATORS- Congratulations!
