Field Trip

We have our first field trip coming up on Wednesday! Please keep an eye out for our note with details of our field trip which will be in your child's homework folder on Monday!

Trading! Trading! Trading!

At the end of the year, I find that pencils and erasers go missing so we devised a new way of keeping track of our pencils and erasers! We trade 1 shoe for a pencil and another show for an eraser. This way, unless we get our pencils and erasers back studetns do not get their shoes ;-) The system seems to be working and it is a real novelty to trade.

Voice!

We have begun learning about "voice" and what it means to have a voice when we write. It is a hard concept when we are learning how to write and doing such a fab job and writing narratives for "The Enormous Crocodile", as an integration of our novel study and narrative study. All students seem to be getting the hang of it. :-)

Transition Day

We had our transition day on Thursday- The SK's came to visit with us for part of the day! we have a wonderful time helping them and giving them a taste of the things we do in grade 1. It was a great way to also remember how when we were in senior kindergarten we came to visit grade 1.

Here are a few pictures of what we were unto. We also had a mutual "thank you" party and took lots of pictures. Safe to say, we have made new and awesome friends!

Math and Science

Its almost the end of the grade 1 experience and we have been busy as usual. Revewing what we have learnt over the course of the year as well as learning new things. Over the last week we have been working on Data Management- Graphs. Reviewing how we read graphs, drawing and interpreting graphs. We have had a lot of fun doing it and its amazing how much we still remember of what we learned in term 1. We were even able to apply some of our math knowledge when we worked with sound energy and we able to interpret and draw graphs in our Science workbooks. :-)

We have been discussing Sound energy and we made panpipes with straws to see how sound travels, we used skills that we learnt in math- how to measure and we loved it. Most of us are wonderful at measuring and using a ruler to measure.

We are working on Regrouping 2 digit numbers in addition and for the most part with lots of practice we are getting the "hang" of how to carry-over from the units to the tens house. We love coming up to the board and teaching each other how to add and how to regroup.
